Former Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan has announced details of a new solo album, his first release since the split of the much-loved Seattle band last year. The album, "Field Songs," is due for release May 8 through Sub Pop in North America, and via Beggars Banquet in Europe.

It's Lanegan's fifth solo album, and the follow-up to 1999's collection of covers, "I'll Take Care Of You." Among the guests appearing on "Field Songs" are former Soundgarden bass player Ben Shepherd, Ministry's Bill Rieflin, and ex-Dinosaur Jr. bassist Mike Johnson.

The track "Kimiko's Dream House" was co-written with late Gun Club singer Jeffrey Lee Pierce. Lanegan plans to embark on an extensive solo tour of the U.S. in May, before heading to Europe for a number of summer music festivals, and returning for a more expansive American tour in the fall. -- Jason Reynolds, L.A.
