17 November, 2004- Arena, Madrid, Spain

review by ejcampos

This has been the 4th time that Mark comes to play live here in Madrid, and the 4th time I have seen him. The first time was on the 'Scraps at Midnight' tour, and that time he played exactly 6 songs of each of his (then) three solo albums and 'Sworn and Broken' from the Screaming Trees' album 'Dust' to end the show. The second time was in the 'Field Songs' tour, and the show was a little bit short (only 70 minutes) and probably the worst of the four. The third time was last year (Dec, 3, 2003) and the show was really great. Well, I think tonight show has been the best of all, Mark's voice is full of power and intensity and the band is really incredible, including Shelley, that really did a good job (of course, she is not P.J Harvey, but there is only one P.J.!!!). It's a little bit sad that they didn't play any song from the first three Mark albums, but I suppose that he prefers to focused on the new song (especially considering the fact that he has been coming to Spain on each and every tour he has made since his third album) The most surprising thing is that they played two Screaming Trees' songs, Gospel Plow (from Dust) and Ivy, a really old but incredible song from 'Invisible Lantern'(I think that most of the people on the venue didn't know the song, probably because most of the people only knows about the Tress for their two (or maybe three) last albums).

I really look forward for the next time.
