11, 12, and 13 November, 2004- Milan, Treviso, and Rimini, Italy

reviews by Marco

Ok friends, all of you that you are reading here is learned that Mark is several and several planets above every singer/songwriter born on the Earth, so I think you don't want a fucking critical essay but only know what is gone well and what not.

The best of my three concerts (Milano, Treviso and Rimini) is sure Milano, the band is a well-oiled team, Mark like always begins slowly and then put out the voice 'till the climax with two antidiluvian Screaming Trees rendition, Ivy and Invisible Lantern (1988 men!!! Maybe the anthology supervision created some desire of a dinosaurs' reunion...a crazy guy asks for Subtle Poison...hard to please!!). Also I loved the new versions of Resurrection Song and Fix, both with a long instrumental tails, powerful drumming (Norm really rocks!) and acid guitars rebounded between Bret and Michael. Mark leaves the stage to Shelley for Strange Religion but appears with Nick singing Four Corners and Autopilot. Take notes: for the first time outside we find false t-shirts of Mark!! Take another notes: a beatiful concert without songs from Winding, Whiskey and Scraps...

But Treviso is truly a defeat cause first of all Michael Barragan is vanished, we picked up a gossip about stories involving Shelley but I think it's unjust to report it, posterity will judge. Nick is the substitute in some songs but it's hard for him to find the chords, he remains behind Eddie Nappi. Too many people, the club is exploding, Mark before the show comes casually between the crowd, almost frightened. He's very angry, half concert is ruined by a buzzing amplifier, his voice tonight seems more strained. The songlist is exactly the same of Milano.

And now I speak about Rimini (the tenth medal on my fucking proud chest), another mixing with the people. The audio is better than yesterday but the absence of the tattooed guitarist is very apparent, Bret (how much is precious tonight) is forced to make an overwork, Mark is again searching for the best voice. Indeed we lost Invisible Lantern (maybe the best Trees song, surely with another production...) and the charm of Gospel Plow.

Last but not least glory and honour to all italian Lanegan fans and particularly to Sara (she tried all days to obtain an interview for her radio, not let it get to you, next time will be better), my friend Gerald, Benjamin (so lucky...), Elisa for her patience, Riccardo "the gig bible", all chilly and wet but present. Sorry for english, see you soon, Mark is a (strange) religion...
