31 December, 2017: Happy New Year Mark Lanegan Fans!

Tonight, just before midnight and the change into 2018, this website turns 20 years old. It has been my privilege and pleasure to have curated and maintained this archive dedicated to the music and career of Mark Lanegan for the past 20 years. This website has provided me with the opportunity to have some excellent adventures, to get way out of my comfort zone, and to meet some of the most amazing people – some of whom have become my best friends over the years.

When I first started this site, I remember emailing a photographer who had taken some photos of Mark at a multi-artist event. I asked if I could please post his photos on my website, dedicated to Mark Lanegan. He emailed me back and said sure, no problem, but “Why would anyone want to do a website for Lanegan?”

Twenty years later, no one is asking that. Mark’s fan base has grown wildly. Whether you first heard him with Screaming Trees, on his own, or with any one of the genre-spanning talented artists he has collaborated with doesn’t matter. The fact is, you heard him, you became a fan.

This site has gone through many changes (see the About page). Now, the rise of social media has made it easier for fans to immediately post their photos and writing and artwork, all on their own. This is a great thing, but for a website like onewhiskey.com, it is also a sad thing. All the photos you see on this home page have been contributed over the years by fans. Check out the Archive site for hundreds of them, from all years – except the most recent ones.

I’d like to ask for all of your help to keep this site as a permanent archive of everything we see, hear, and are inspired to create as a result of being fans of the music of Mark Lanegan. I see some great photos and artwork on the various social media sites, and I’d love to add them to this site as in the past – but I need your permission. I’m asking that if you’d like to contribute to the site, please just drop me a line (raeni @ onewhiskey dot com) when you post something elsewhere. Tell me where it is, and how you’d like to be credited – and I can collect your photos and put them up on the site. Or send them to me directly, whatever works!

I learned how to create a gallery in WordPress, you can see my terrible photos here! I’d like to add yours, and to create new galleries for all the various legs of the tour. I am admittedly very slow in making all the updates (due to life), but I still appreciate and want your stuff! Let’s save it for future generations.

Thanks to all of you for your participation over the years. I hope you have found the site helpful and fun.
And of course, thank you to Mark Lanegan. No matter the musical style, no matter who you work with, you always make music that is quality. Your music makes people feel something, and that’s important.

Happy New Year!
